Conversion
I am the middle of three children who grew up in Southeastern Georgia. Although my father is not saved, my mother is a believer who faithfully carried us to church as children growing up. I grew up in a small Southern Baptist church in a small town, but heard the Gospel faithfully preached by our pastor. When I was 18 years old, after feeling extreme guilt over the sins I’d committed, and extreme fear over God’s punishment for said sins, I repented of my sins and begged Jesus Christ to save me. I have never been the same sense.
Calling
After conversion, I became associated with the charismatic movement when I moved to college in Valdosta, Georgia. I had never heard of anything like that, but it felt exciting and energizing as a new believer. It was only after I transferred to Athens, Georgia to finish college that I began to learn of some of the false teachings that are characteristic of many in the charismatic community. I became heavily involved in the Baptist Student Center and in a local Baptist church in Athens. My senior year, I was able to lead a men’s Bible study and to preach a few times at my church. These opportunities led me to head down a path towards seminary.
Seminary and Experience
I attended Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis. My primary purpose for going was that they strongly empasized personal evangelism, an area of my life I felt weak in. During this time, I was able to minister at a small fellowhisp of older believers, preaching expositionally through the book of Romans. I also met my beautiful wife, Kacie. Upon completion of seminary, we felt God’s leading to work with the International Mission Board for a short-time period. Our goal and desire in ministry is to serve the local church of the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully through biblical exposition.
